Cleantech to open 'green' home - Beverly - Your Town - Boston.com

After four years in the making, Cleantech Homes, LLC. is unveiling one of the most energy efficient, sustainable homes in the nation.

The house will be inaugurated by the Honorable William F. Scanlon Jr., Mayor of Beverly, on August 5th, 2010 and will be open to the public, by appointment, thereafter.

This showcase home will be used as a prototype to educate the public in sustainable building techniques and design as well as an exhibition site for new products and materials used in the construction of high performance homes. Schools, universities and professionals in the home construction industry will be invited to tour the house.

In addition to geothermal energy, solar photovoltaic panels, solar thermal hot water, and sustainable materials throughout, this exceptional home also features:

  • Exclusive use of LED lighting systems- only a handful of homes in the US can claim this achievement.
  • Chosen by the EPA for its WaterSense Pilot program (the water label equivalent to the Energy Star home program) out of only seven builders in the nation, the house uses a full rainwater recovery system coupled with low-flow water fixtures.
  • One of the most advanced home automation and energy monitoring hardware and software systems nationwide. It is the dashboard for the house that calculates and reports energy production and usage of solar electricity, solar thermal hot water and geothermal heat and cooling.
  • A healthy living environment- An Energy Recovery System filters most airborne allergens and dramatically reduces asthma and allergy problems.
